Glass Letters by Pino Signoretto for Kimiko Yoshida

Event organised by Palazzo Amalteo

Exhibition of glass works blown by the famous vetraio Pino Signoretto (1944 – 2017).
The art historian Pierre Rosenberg states that it was the first time in history of glass that a glassmaker has succeeded in creating blown glass letters. The letters were drawn to the dimensions of Kimiko Yoshida's face, in order to create photographic self-portraits with these letters and compose sentences in Latin. Kimiko Yoshida notably reproduced the epitaph of Cardinal Barberini with the blown glass letters:
HIC
JACET
PULVIS
CINIS
ET
NIHIL

Here lies
dust,
ashes
and
nothing
