Homage to Rothko by Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga

Event organised by Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga

In collaboration with Cristina Beltrami and Giberto Venezia

Giberto Arrivabene created a sculpture in three colour variants to honor Mark Rothko. Rothko, a pioneer of field painting, was a key figure at the 1958 Biennale's U.S. pavilion. His works, showcasing the tension between color blocks, have greatly influenced art history. Arrivabene’s three polychrome glass sculptures are inspired by the artist’s visual system, using a complex layering technique to capture the luminous transitions and abstract nuances. Furthermore, the choice of Rothko is motivated by his biography—born in Latvia and emigrated to the US—aligning with the LX Biennale theme "Strangers Everywhere", and by and his remarkable ability to make color a matter of space.
