The Floating Furnace: free glassmaking demonstrations thank to Select

Among the most important highlights of #TheArtofFire will be the hotly anticipated return of The Floating Furnace, the series of free glassmaking demonstrations,  promoted and organised by Consorzio Promovetro Murano and supported by Select – the aperitif which was born in Venice in 1920, ideal for making an authentic Venetian spritz – which has always aimed to enhance local life and culture.

The Floating Furnace will be active from Saturday 9th – Tuesday 12th September6-8pm, inCampo dell’Erbaria near the Rialto Bridge.  Over the course of these four evenings, a barge decked out with an active glass furnace will be moored on the Grand Canal by Campo dell’Erbaria near the Rialto Bridge, transporting the art of glassmaking out of the furnaces of Murano and into the heart of Venice.  Every evening, the barge will host a series of free glassmaking demonstrations by some of Murano’s finest glass masters. The demonstrations will be accompanied by commentary from experts in both Italian and English, as well as questions from the public.
