Two glass bodies are connected by a long expander rope with ends tied to metal rods. The work is about relationships, bonds of dependency, the feeling of tightness and being trapped and ultimately about trust. As in human relationships they cannot live with or without each other. So there is literally a tension within the work, because the weight of the objects pulls the elastic rope towards the floor and ensures that the stands do not collapse.
Ulrike Markus’ (Germany, 1989) installations are characterised by an examination of moments of fragility in human encounters, personal experiences and the resulting confrontations with the (socio-political) environment. She lives in Frankfurt am Main, studied sculpture in Oslo and Offenbach am Main, and has received several awards and honours for his work. In addition to Paris, Düsseldorf, Oslo and Frankfurt, her works have also been exhibited in Leipzig and Berlin.
