Time of Memories

Event organised by Michele Burato

The installation "Time of Memories" by Michele Burato consists of three distinct works.
A glass sculpture that starts from a texture of colors previously fused in an electric oven
and subsequently blow. The shape with a flat top, is reminiscent of an ancient Neolithic tool.
the pastel colors appear like waves of memories where traces of scars can be glimpsed in a
point of the surface. The artist's second work represents sort of molten glass canvas with a
bronze support that takes up the theme of memory represented by color inserts fragmented
by digital decalcomanias. Burato' s third work is a large glass goblet with applications of
pigments, digital decals and a lead edge, similar to a hypothetical stoup, containing
memories of the time. The three works have the theme that unites them. Time of memories
not necessarily the two linked to the artist but rather a reflection that unites a part of
humanity. In the large "time of Memories" cup, in addition to the idea of memory, a thought
towards the female universe can be found, the representations inserted in the work
symbolize, even if apparently dreamlike, the unstoppable violence that surrounds us. Even
the use of "Float" glass (industrial glass) desired by the artist Michele Burato has a strong
sense of change, a natural "working-progress" that the artist has developed after years of
experimentation and work in contact with realities of the glass material.

Michele Burato, (b. Italy, 1957) Towards the end of the 1980s, seduced by the beauty of sections of old murrine canes, gave them new life by fusing the them with an ancient technique in polychrome plates with an unusual texture. After a period of almost alchemical experimentation, Burato begins to create glass plates by fusing no longer sections of rods with murrine but makes threads, very fine powders and fragments of highly colored glass, so as to obtain abstract compositions of exceptional chromaticism and vitality. Some plates remain as they are, similar to paintings on canvas but with a shiny and crystalline surface, due to the action of the very high temperatures of the oven on the glass. Others plates leave Michele Burato's studio to be reheated, collected with a blowpipe and modeled in the furnace into three-dimensional shapes. the final works are vases and sculpture with mellow colors. they evoke brushstrokes, flows of pigments that look like work of action painting, born from an impulsive gesture, from a feverish and immediate work of the artist who projects himself into the work.
