Scrigno d'Africa, African Treasure Chest

Event organised by Comitato per la Salvaguardia dell'Arte delle Perle di Vetro Veneziane e Galleria Akka Project

From 1 September to 7 October 2022 the Akka Project Gallery hosts the personal exhibition of Cyrus Kabiru, a young but already established Kenyan artist, who uses varied up-cycled materials in his works, including glass beads.
During the exhibition, the Committee for the Safeguarding of the Art of Venetian Glass Beads (CPVV), in collaboration with the Gallery, will curate a section dedicated to contemporary Venetian beads inspired by the old trade beads returned from Africa, lost and found on the routes of their journeys, along with tools and materials.
In December 2020, the Art of Glass Beads was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage Of Humanity (Unesco 2003 Convention). This initiative is proposed for the enhancement of intangible heritage linked to glass beads Art.
