The proceedings of the conference “Perle 5.0. Venetian beads in the nineteenth century” represent a further important chapter devoted to the study of this specific glass artefact. In recent years, glass beads have been the subject of a genuine rediscovery, also following the inscription of the “Art of Glass Beads” on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. The various essays brought together in this volume demonstrate how the production of glass beads (lampworked beads, conterie and rosetta beads) was fundamental to the nineteenth-century Murano glass industry and to the Venetian economy, while also highlighting the historical and artistic value of these small masterpieces.
