Ataraxia are a series of unique works that aim to evoke a sense of stillness and quiet contemplation. Layers of coloured glass define an internal space of solid optically clear polished glass. The work is an invitation to pause for a moment and look a little deeper, offering a moment of serene tranquillity and the sensation of one form floating within another. A vessel that concurrently suggests both depth and buoyancy.
Peter Bowles (UK, 1968) has lectured at numerous institutions throughout the world including the Alberta College of Art and Design, The China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, and BGC Glass Studio, Bangkok. A quiet artist and passionate teacher who has garnered an international reputation for his technical mastery and inventive approach to the craft of glass-making. He works with his partner Anne Clifton from their studio in Northern Tasmania.
