Michèle Oberdieck. Ostfriesia Series

Event organised by Michèle Oberdieck

The Ostfriesia Series is inspired by memories of Oberdieck’s family visits to her father’s birthplace on the Friesland peninsula.
The wide horizon brings a clarity to the delicate colourings of soft greys, delft blues and celadon evident in the flat landscape and lattice of canals created by the North Sea, the grasslands and dunes.
Thin mists, marshland fogs and sea haze powder the skylines, blurring the distinctions from the land, sea and sky.

Michèle Oberdieck (Canada, 1966) has lived in Great Britain for over two decades, training as a textile designer at the Glasgow School of Art. In 2016 she changed direction after a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art and she has been working with blown glass ever since. Colour has always been a driving force for her work, with sources of inspiration coming from the natural world and abstract expressionist paintings. She lives and works in London.
