LOBMEYR at Paris 1925 - The invention of the modern wine glass

Event organised by Giobagnara

In collaboration with LOBMEYR

The “Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes” in Paris in 1925 gave the style Art Deco its name. A call for entries explicitly stipulated that only objects of “new style” could be shown.
Josef Hoffmann and Oswald Haerdtl introduced beauty, which is not achieved by décor, but simply by shape. This emerged to be inspiration for the modern wine glass. Their designs still push artisans to surpass their limits. Thick folders Hoffmann and Haerdtl’s sketches in the Lobmeyr archives testify to the tremendous productivity of the artists up into the 1950s. Some of their classics, such as the Candy Dish, the Patrician and the Ambassador series, and also chandeliers have earned a lasting status in the world of design. The jury in Paris awarded a Grand Prix to Lobmeyr.
