Katerina Krotenko. Shaped by fire

Event organised by Katerina Krotenko

This work explores cultural synthesis and movement in time, the simultaneity of the past and the future. The artist revives the Finnish technique from the 1960s and develops it further, experimenting with wood and glassblowing processes to master the synergy of elements with air and fire, achieving an enhanced natural metamorphosis of shapes. Material-led creative serendipity results in objects seemingly grown from the earth rather than made by hand.

Katerina Krotenko (Ukraine, 1993) is a Helsinki-based artist in vocation to work with heritage contexts. She is in love with the craft of creating objects, spaces, and experiences. Katerina is keen on metaphysical materiality, she believes in soulful objects that inspire the sense of beauty and embody memories & stories. Katerina loves the whimsical character of glass that allows for highly intuitive and beautifully spontaneous work.
