Pablo and Shower of Rain are both made using free-blowing techniques. In Pablo, the colour of the inner layer is achieved using a ruby gold rod. The air pockets are created using a wet wooden stick and a steam blower. Shower of Rain is a combination of the traditional reticello filigree technique and steam rod blowing.
Kari Alakoski (Finland, 1956) began working with glass at the age of 14 and has taught glass blowing for seven years. He has been
working at Studio Mafka&Alakoski in Riihimäki, Finland, since 2010.
In the 1990s, numerous masters from Murano held courses at the Nuutajärvi Glassfactory. These courses had a revolutionary influence on his way of working with glass.
