Inauguration: Ritsue Mishima - Glass Works
Event organised by Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia e Ritsue Mishima Studio
The artist celebrates the viscosity of Venetian glass to give shape to sculptures characterised by their transparency. Their contours are defined by light and meld with the surrounding environment.
The exhibition, which falls on the bicentenary of Antonio Canova’s death, creates a dialogue between the glass works and the Master.
The show starts with nine glass works resting under Canova’s bas-reliefs and continues into the Wrestlers Room with works that symbolise the daily creative struggle of artisans engaged in glassmaking. The exhibition continues in the Tablino and on the Palladian Staircase, ending with a mirrored surface above which the sculptures echo the reflections of the Venetian canal
