Hidden Treasure: Exploring the potential of glass waste on Murano
Event organised by Róisín de Buitléar
In collaboration with Wave Murano Glass Srl & AAV Barbini Specchi Veneziani
Irish artist Róisín de Buitléar will reuse waste glass to develop design work for objects and sculptures in a unique residency at Wave Murano. At an open studio, working with 2 Muranese studios: Wave & Barbini Mirror company, she will explore the potential of waste glass as a valuable commodity for creative ideas. As islanders, Venetian & Irish communities dispose of glass waste every day. The slag; crushed & broken glass material that is produced, has to leave the island or be reused in some way. Although infinitely recyclable, if mixed with pigments it cannot be used as a material for blowing. Climate change is increasingly a looming factor in the future sustainability of the glass industry. Come visit the studio to see what ideas are unfolding & what Hidden Treasure has emerged.
