Glass Art NOW! 1000 Years of Hungarian Glass is an exhibition which aims to present the concise history of the development of glass in the Carpathian Basin from the earliest Roman excavations to the present day. The show, which forms part of the Bohus-Lugossy Foundation's ongoing research into the history of glass in the Carpathian Basin, features a wide spectrum of glass objects that mark important milestones in various historical periods, with the latest chapter being contemporary glass art and the works of recent graduates from the summer of 2023.
In conjunction with the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, a 1:100 scale architectural model of the Spatial Spiral - European Contemporary Glass Art Museum will also be presented, inspired by the sculpture "Spatial Spiral" by glass sculptor Zoltán Bohus (1979, The Corning Museum of Glass), with the iconic embryo in the centre of its spiral curve, motives typical of his wife’s, Mária Lugossy’s, glass sculpturing design. The building, designed as a glass museum, thus represents the embryo, the core of life, which is surrounded by a spiral of space and time in a never-ending flow, symbolising the constant renewal of life and glass art.
