YALI Glass is pleased to present CEREMONY by Alexander Kirkeby at CASA YALI. In his first solo show in Venice, CEREMONY brings together a selection of elaborate glass objects meticulously handcrafted by the artist in his small glass studio in Aarhus, Denmark.
Kirkeby’s works question the norms of proportion, scale and levelness, balancing the tension between the mastery of the craft and the material’s chaotic being and demonstrating a contrast between precision and the organic, fluid quality of the glass.
Archetypal objects blend traditional glassmaking techniques with contorted aesthetics. Classic shapes and decoration are twisted and deformed, flowing from the classic to the distorted, resulting in objects that are intriguing, functional, tactile and decidedly contemporary.
