Basic lampworking courses

Event organised by MUVE Academy

In collaboration with Comitato per la Salvaguardia dell’Arte delle Perle di Vetro Veneziane, nell’ambito del PR Veneto FESR 2021-2027

On the occasion of The Venice Glass Week, the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia – MUVE Academy offers four free workshops to discover and experiment with lampwork glass bead making.

The educational program aims to provide the basic, fundamental skills needed to handle molten glass and create glass beads. Students will be introduced to the operational safety procedures required to work with an oxygen-gas torch, as well as the basic techniques of lampworking.

The course begins with a brief historical, theoretical, and practical introduction to safe lampworking practices. Following a short demonstration, students will take turns making one or more glass spheres to learn how to control molten glass. They will then move on to crafting one or more decorated beads on steel mandrels.

During the two-hour workshop, participants will gain familiarity with the glass and flame, learn basic bead-shaping techniques, and create their own items. All necessary materials and personal protective equipment are provided by the organizers. It is recommended to wear simple, comfortable clothing with long sleeves, a high neck, covered legs, and to bring hair ties for long hair.
Participation is subject to strict compliance with the safety rules communicated on site.

Once the beads have cooled down, students will be able to take their finished creations home.
